Planning and Implementing

There are so many Web 2.0 tools available for Social Networking and Knowledge Management...where do you begin?

Before you start, you must do your research. Over the past few weeks I have been recording all the possible tools and developments methods. I have started evaluating how they will impact the learner in both education and management of their new found knowledge. I can document and draft all I want, but HOW is it going to happen? It is not as easy as Features telling, as it is proving the value of the tool and just how it will impact the business. You must have a clear plan that includes stakeholders, business ops impact, resources (people and dollars) and then how will this increase what "I am doing today."

THEN, you talk about implementation. A plan only gets you so far. You need cler buy-in, resource support, task forces, and technology driving it all. This is not the job of one person only, but clear planning can help with the implementation and integration of all these tools and technologies.

So, my lesson is...it's not easy, but it has to be done. If we want to get involved and impact the community of our profession, we need to take the proper steps...and just maybe we will can do it!

Safe Practices

Hackers, phishing, and people that will take anything you post and expose it are enough reasons to consider safe practies in all Web 2.0 activities. Always stay safe...think about everything you write. Imagine walking down the hall and seeing the Vice President. Would you share certain pieces of personal information with him? Then don't do it on-line. Would you tell a neighbor private company details? Then don't do it on-line. Would you give a stranger your SSN or bank account? Then don't do it on-line. Last thing, would you give a pedifile private information which would put your children in harm's way? Then don't do it on-line.

Be smart, be safe. Before you join the Web 2.0 train, become informed. Review On-line Safety Practices. Think about your words. Web 2.0 is open to the world, therefore so is what you say.

Creating My Own Social Network

I am new to this, and not sure how to link it all together. What I can do is share some interesting things I have been reading.

One feed I always get on my twitter is from http://www.nextgenerationlearning.org.uk/ They have alot of interesting discussions on Web 2.0, creating collaborative environments, and more in the classroom.

Another site that provides examples of e-learning as well as methods by which implement e-learning into your environment is http://www.elearninglounge.com/

I would like to hear from the others in class on how I can enhance my "social networking" - pls - tips, tricks, etc... I am not really sure how this all works. Enjoy the beautiful day!
